EXCELLENCE IN PATIENT CARE
  • Open Heart Surgery: Open heart surgery was restarted after a gap of 9 years from 1st April 2024. A total of five cases have been performed successfully from 01/04/2024, which include Intra Cardiac Repair of ASD, PDA ligation, and Mitral Valve Replacement for Mitral stenosis.

  • Inaugural Hemodialysis: Inaugural Haemodialysis was done in Medicine ICU, 1st Floor, Medicine Building, on 11th May 2024.

  • Neurosurgery: For the first time in history, Assam Medical College successfully completed neurosurgery with the help of a state-of-the-art ‘neuro endoscopy’ machine on 9th February 2024. The neurosurgery department of AMC achieved the pride of setting a new milestone in Assam's medical education and healthcare sector by completing this endoscopy neurosurgery at the super-speciality hospital of the medical college.

ACADEMIC BRILLIANCE
  • MRU: MRU AMCH scored the highest evaluation marks in the performance evaluation conducted by the Department of Health Research, Govt. of India, in a convention held in Delhi in January 2024. Therefore, this MRU is selected as a site for conducting workshops on research methodology for MRUs of Assam in collaboration with ICMR Collaborating Centre of Excellence, Christian Medical College, Vellore.

  • Basic Spine Cadaveric Workshop (ENT and Ortho): Cadaver dissection and surgical workshop cum CME on temporal bone was conducted on 1st & 2nd December 2023.

  • Cadaveric Spine Workshop and Cadaveric Knee Workshop: Organized on 27th April 2024 and 22nd June 2024 respectively, where more than 60 participants from different parts of the NE region attended. Cadavers were made available by the Department of Anatomy, where the participants had hands-on training under the guidance of experts.

  • NAMS Hypertension Workshop: As part of the national network and to provide continuous updates on recent advances, a unique Workshop cum CME on Hypertension was conducted in collaboration with the National Academy of Medical Sciences on 11th October 2023, with representatives from all cadres of healthcare.

SERVICE TO COMMUNITY
  • The National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission: The road to Sickle Cell Elimination: from Field to Laboratory.

  • Down Syndrome Screening and Awareness: A comprehensive health check-up camp for persons with Down Syndrome was conducted at DEI Centre, Assam Medical College and Hospital, in collaboration with DSFI, RBSK-DEIC, and District Health Society, Dibrugarh, on 27th July 2024, with the participation of 61 persons from 7 districts.

  • Health Camps: "Reaching the Unreached" - A total of 28 health camps among vulnerable populations and hard-to-reach areas were conducted in various upper Assam districts in collaboration with BCPL and OIL under CSR initiatives.

BUILDING BLOCKS OF INFRASTRUCTURE
  • Pathology Museum: The Renovated Heritage Pathology Museum was inaugurated on 16th July 2024. This work has been carried out from the corpus fund generated from the contributions of the AMC alumni, costing nearly twenty lakhs of rupees. The renovated museum, inspired by British architecture, is a stunning display of wooden interiors with historical artefacts and also houses the iconic statue of the Greek God Asclepius.

  • Post Mortem Hall: The most awaited two-storied new mortuary complex with all modern amenities was inaugurated on 17th September. Modern facilities like DNA sample collection for all bodily samples, X-ray examination, cadaveric preservation, and post-mortem videography will also be available in the complex.

  • AMC Dispensary: The OPD dispensary was shifted to the new building adjacent to the casualty building on 27th September and functions from 8 AM to 9 PM in the greater public interest, ensuring that patients attending the casualty after OPD hours are benefited. Plans are in place to make it operational 24 hours in the future.

  • Paying Cabin Block: 20th August 2024 will remain a memorable day in AMC history as an MOU was signed between OIL and AMC for constructing 37 paying cabins with all modern amenities at a cost of nearly 9 crores under CSR funds.

  • Hostel with Modern Kitchen Setup: Highly equipped dining facilities in a 350-bedded Boys’ Hostel.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACHIEVEMENTS
  • National IAPSM World Health Day Quiz: AMCH participated in a nationwide uniform activity in the form of the WHD Quiz under the aegis of IAPSM with the goal of sensitizing medical students on Health for All in public health, conducted among 706+ medical colleges in India.

  • Debate Best Awards: The team representing AMCH received the Second Best Team as well as the individual Second Best Debater award in the prestigious Manik Chandra Barooah Debate Competition held at Cotton University on 9th September 2024.

  • Bhaona: Keeping the cultural heritage of Assam Medical College alive, a Bhaona themed “Rukmini Haran” was performed by the faculties, staff, and students on the occasion of the Tithi of Mahapurukh Srimanta Sankardeva.

  • One Act Play: On the occasion of Rabha Divas, the drama “Joymoti” was enacted by the students and staff of the college.

  • Revival of NCC: After an interval of 10 years, the Medical BN NCC has been revived at Assam Medical College. It is the only functional medical battalion at present among all the medical colleges in India.
