About -

Cardiothoracic vascular surgery department opened in the year of 1987 vide official order number HLB.918/86/2 dated 28 March 1987.Posts created at that time were one post of Assistant Professor(Rs.1675-2300/PM), one post of Registrar(Rs.875-1850/PM) and two posts of senior house stuff(Rs.1000-(Fixed)). Dr. Dhiman Choudhury was appointed as the first Assistant Professor of the Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery Department (Vide official order no. MCH/87/11615 dated 19th September 1987) first Bed allotted for the cardio thoracic surgery was in the cardiology female wing with five male and two female bed. OPD was allotted on every Saturday from 11am to 2pm. Two days a week OT was allotted in Operation theatre no.4 ( From the superintendent AMCH). Dr. Sisir Ranjan Das joined as an Assistant Professor, Dr. Anil Bharali joined as first senior resident surgeon in the dept.of Cardio thoracic surgery Vide official order no. HLB50/90/11 Dated 24 September 1990.

Cardio thoracic surgery started working from 1987 itself. Various thoracic vascular and close heart surgery was performed from its inception itself. First open heart surgery was performed on 11/06/2015.
