Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology 

          The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Assam Medical College was established in the year 1949 with Professor R. G. Krishnan as HOD and Dr. U.C. Bordoloi as Assistant Professor. The department has achieved the full-fledged state of PG department under the able leadership and untiring efforts of different HOD's especially mentionable among them is Professor R.K. Borkotoky who was the HOD for more than two decades. At present Dr. Paresh Shyam is the Professor and HOD. Every faculty and the member of the department is striving to make the department a premier centre of patient care, education and research in the country.

            Over the years the department has grown gradually to the present state of one of the leading centres of North East India in the field of medical education, training and research in O&G.

            Every year students from across the country come here for undergraduate as well as post graduate training. In addition to implementation of government schemes and programme, the department is regularly implementing training to Medical Officers and paramedical staff for skill development.

  • Dr. Bhubaneswari MB received the award of PADMASHREE PROF M.P. GOGOI AWARD FOR BEST POSTGRADUATE IN OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGY, 2023 by Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences.

  • Dr. Sonam Sharma, PGT awarded the 1st position in the poster presentation at the 32nd NEOGSCON held on 24th to 26th November, 2023 at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Silchar.

An initiative was taken to establish an IUI Lab in the Department of Gynaecology with the contribution of retired and serving faculty. Project is near completion.
